Description
The photo was taken in the middle of U.S. Highway 50 in northern Nevada. Life Magazine wrote in 1986 that highway 50 in Nevada was the "loneliest road in America" and travelers should be learned in survival skills before driving across it.
I wouldn't say it was that bad. Many of the highways in Nevada are barren and desolate. Highway 50 offers towns and services about every 150 miles. And the Nevada tourism board will mail you a certificate congratulating you for making it across if you get your Highway 50 passport stamped in 5 towns along the way. Look for the Highway 50 Survival Guide sign in the stores and gas stations of Ely (east) and Fallon (west) as you start your drive across this "loneliest road".
