Artist's Description

The 1948 Cotton Bowl featured two undefeated teams, Penn State and Southern Methodist (SMU). SMU, led by the great running back Doak Walker, jumped out to a 13-0 lead before Penn State rallied with two touchdowns. A missed extra point by both teams meant the game ended in a 13-13 tie.

An interesting side note: Penn State was in a bowl game for the first time in 25 years. Because none of the Dallas hotels would provide accommodations for the two African-American members of the Penn State team, the Penn State team ended up staying at a Naval Air Station 14 miles from Dallas. This was the first interracial game played at the Cotton Bowl (stadium)

About Benjamin Yeager

Benjamin Yeager

Thank you for stopping by my gallery! I appreciate and enjoy photographing the unique beauty of each area of America. I also search for the artistic value in everyday scenes and I have a big nostalgia itch that I scratch through photography. Entirely self-taught, I enjoy being outdoors and am always ready to capture images that catch my eye, mind or heart. I also love taking whimsical pictures that my two young children can enjoy. At FineArtAmerica, I am the group facilitator of Highway & Byways and Young at HeART. My love for photography grew as I moved around America. I was born (1977) and raised in a rural Indiana town and my photographic interests were limited to the rural subject matter of the area. I began to see new sights...
